Bitcoin jumped on Wednesday by almost 2 thousand dollars (6.6%), Dogecoin added 10%. The total capitalization of the crypto market soared by 6.1%.
Elon Musk spoke about SpaceX's investment in Bitcoin and promised that Tesla will soon start accepting the first cryptocurrency again.
"I really hold Bitcoin, Tesla holds Bitcoin, SpaceX holds Bitcoin," Musk said at the "The B Word" conference, adding that he personally owns Ethereum and Dogecoin.
SpaceX, unlike Tesla, is not a public company, so it is not obliged to publish information about the ownership of BTC in public access.
The panel discussion "Bitcoin is a means of creating economic opportunities" was also attended by the founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, and the head of the asset management company ARK Invest, Kathy Wood.
Musk noted that in general, he considers himself to be a supporter of bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, although he criticizes them for high energy consumption. Bitcoin has a great potential, he added.
Commenting on his influence on the market, the CEO of Tesla said: "If Bitcoin falls in price, I lose money. I can pump, but I will not dump! " He confirmed that Tesla "will most likely resume accepting payments in Bitcoin."
"There is a positive trend in the energy consumption of Bitcoin. This is partly due to the fall in the exchange rate. It seems that there is a trend towards using more than 50% of renewable sources. In this case, Tesla will resume accepting Bitcoin, " Musk said.
In May, the head of Tesla announced that the company was stopping accepting Bitcoin due to its negative impact on the environment, thereby accelerating the decline of the cryptocurrency market.
Bitcoin bounced after the shares, but the continuation of low trading volumes can be considered an alarming sign. Apparently, large capital maintains a wait-and-see position, not considering the current levels to be unambiguously attractive. In addition, the Bitcoin hashrate has stopped growing, which also causes alarm among market participants.
